Kittaya Jing Intarathip Kittaya Intarathip (Jing) was born and raised in Thailand and is a native Thai speaker. At the moment he is working in business in Tokyo but enjoys sharing languages and language learning with people from around the world. He also currently holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles. She joined the team with a strong passion to share the beauty of Thai language and culture with the global community.īenj Soonthornwacharin Born and raised in California, Ben grew up speaking Thai as a heritage language, and studied Japanese in college including a year of studying abroad in Tokyo, to receive his Bachelors Degree in Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Pim developed an interest in teaching Thai to foreigners during her year at the University of Leeds (UK) where she earned her Master’s degree. Pim Tandaechanurat Pim Tandaechanurat is a graduate of Chulalongkorn University where she majored in Communication Arts. She currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand. As a public relations consultant, she continues to hone key communications skills in a variety of languages, including Thai, English, and Japanese. ![]() Rawinporn Taechakumput Rawinporn is a graduate of Chulalongkorn University, faculty of Communication Arts. While studying the Thai language, he also traveled throughout the entire country doing research for a thesis on Buddhist temple art and architecture. During his studies, he spent a year at Chiang Mai University in Northern Thailand. “They are so proud and so excited,” Shelby said.Ryan Zander Ryan Zander is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he earned a degree in Languages and Cultures of Asia. And to have a Thai celebrity like Simon help make it possible? They celebrated her college admission achievement with her grandparents, who were quick to note that she will attend the same university as the late king’s daughter. Shelby and her family just got back from visiting Thailand. She intends to major in brain and cognitive sciences at MIT and go on to medical school. She repeatedly expressed gratitude to her parents for their hard work, to MIT for admitting her, and to Simon for the much-needed financial aid as she moves across the country. She said she cherishes having grown up in a house with grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, who spoke mainly Thai. “Heart and ambition” is how Simon described the selection criteria. Recipients both demonstrated financial need and wrote an application essay about the significance of their Thai heritage. The one-time scholarships will support students attending community colleges and four-year colleges or universities. “I know exactly where these kids are,” said Simon, a Thai immigrant herself alumnus of Pepperdine University and a former Miss Universe. Simon hopes the scholarship program, now in its third year, will foster a sense of ethnic pride and community among young Thai students. ![]() Sinsommanat is already enrolled in a summer program at UC Berkeley, where he plans to study business administration.
